Michèle Landsaat (American / Pacific Northwest, b. 1968) was born in 1968 in Seattle and lived in Paris before returning to her native Seattle. She received a BA from the University of Washington and studied Illustration at the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in Seattle. Although not traditionally trained in fine arts, Landsaat has learned from studying the many artists that inspire her and pursuing an artful life. Her main influences are French, Korean, and Japanese illustrators. Landsaat is known for her intricate, intimate etchings that feature women, animals, and other invented creatures. Her work offers a unique approach to storytelling and illustrating in a vulnerable and whimsical world.
